New Site!

The site has moved! Visit DGF Alumni now. You’ll find lots of new features, with more on the way. It’s a work in progress, but it’s up and running enough for you to use it.

I’ve transferred most of the posts over, but unfortunately, because I’ve moved to a hosted site, and am using a new comment system (one of those cool new features!), I’m unable to import all the comments from this site. I could transfer them over by hand, and I may still do that for some of the recent ones, but it would be very time consuming. I’d rather use that time further improving the site and making it more useful and fun than ever.

If you’ve left a comment here that you really want to transfer over, please feel free to copy it from this site and paste it into the appropriate page on the new site. I’ll be more than happy to approve all transferred comments, and I’ll even adjust the date to the original post date for posterity’s sake. If you decide to do this, thank you! I appreciate the help.

I’ll leave this site up for a while to let visitors know that we’ve moved, but I have disabled comments on this site. I’ll also be removing all the links, and eventually, all the posts. I’m trying to make this transition as easy on everyone as possible.

Many of you have taken to communicating through comments on this site. It’s one of the main reasons I decided to move back to a hosted site with more options. Not everyone is on Facebook, and I’d like to help make it easy for people to find each other and communicate. To that end, one of the biggest changes you’ll see on the new site is the addition of a Discussion Forum. An offsite forum has existed for a few years, but now it’s embedded in the site, making it easier for everyone to communicate in one place.

Again, I was unable to import all the old posts. The old discussion forum, which can be found here, will also remain up for a while to help everyone make their way over to the new site. I have disabled posting on the old forum, so please feel free to start conversations in the new one.

If you have any questions, or have any problems using the new site, or any suggestions for it, please let me know via the Contact page at DGF Alumni. Thank you for your support!

DGFer in motorcycle accident

I just received word that fellow DGFer Roger Davison was involved in a motorcycle accident in California a couple of days ago. He’s been in and out of surgery since then. He sustained several broken bones, including many in his face. His brother Bobby reports him in stable but guarded condition.

Please keep Roger in your thoughts and prayers, and maybe leave a message on his Facebook profile to find when he recovers. I’m sure Bobby would also appreciate your support.

In Memory…

We lost a dear friend last week. Inmaculada Kirk Pierce, known to all of us as Macu, was killed in a tragic boating accident on Easter Sunday. She was 42. She leaves behind a 16-year-old daughter, Monica, a wonderful family, and numerous close friends.

As many of you know, Geno Raffo (Class of ‘89) passed away last year. He was a great guy and we miss him very much.

Hungry?

Whether you’re cooking just for yourself or you have a large family to feed, the nightly question of, “What’s for dinner?” can be enough to push even the most talented cook over the edge. What to make? Do I have all the ingredients? Will we all like it? How soon would a pizza be here if I ordered it now?

DGFer Bonnie Giles has the answer.

Fallen Admirals

Since linking the blog to Facebook, several people have asked about Admirals listed on the In Memoriam page. Many are hearing about lost classmates for the first time, so are naturally curious as to how and when their friends passed away, especially those who were still so young.

Fellow DGFer Falls Ill

I was notified this evening that Jeff Snyder, Class of 1974, suffered a stroke on Monday, August 25, which affected his right arm and hand. This is all I know so far, but fellow DGFer Rose Flanagan Miller, Class of 1975, has been kind enough to offer to provide updates as she gets them. Let’s all keep Jeff in our thoughts for a speedy recovery.
